i agree with Megan, the book will definitely end with a "...". I also predict a mix tape at some point :) I am enjoying the book, reminds me of The Perks of being a Wallflower

I'm enjoying the book so far even though I was initially worried about reading a "teenage love story". Was anyone else confused by the very first line of the book? "Late in the winter of my seventeenth year...". I assumed this meant she was 17 but I find out later she is 16.

Whatever age you are, say you're 20, you're actually working on your 21st year. Because you're born zero, then after a year you're 1, but that whole year you were really working on your 1st year. That's why I always say, I'm on my 26th year, but I'm 25.

Yeah, I figured that out but it was very confusing for me at first. =)

So when are we going to move on from Chapters 1-6? I read Chapter 6-7 last night and its difficult to discuss chapter 6 without talking about chapter 7. I really enjoyed chapter 6. It's gets exciting/tense!

I'm WAY ahead as well, I just go with it as it moves along on here. I read like the first 12 chapters in my first sitting, I'm really enjoying it! I like the characters a whole lot, plus, these teenagers don't talk or act like regular teens.

So, I've broken up the book into random chapters and a new section is supposed to go up each week (meaning, new chapters are being put up tomorrow). Do you guys think it would be better if I put all the sections up at once so people could respond as they read?

Also, let's make some meatier comments on here! What do you love, what do you hate, what are some good quotes that you'd like to remember, etc? I haven't gotten my own copy of the book yet so I will post some questions tomorrow or Saturday.

Ya, I'd like them all posted at once, only because that's why I haven't put meatier comments up because I'm way further ahead, and books don't stay in chapters in my head, it all gets mashed into one, so I don't want to spoil anything that hasn't happened yet, but if they were all up at once I could start commenting on the chapter I'm on. :-) I mean, if that's what everyone else wants as well, and if it's not too much added work on you each new book to do them all at once.

I finally got my hands on the book! I was waiting for the library to let me know when a copy was available so I finally asked just how long the waitlist was and it was going to take another 2 months (!) so I bit the bullet and bought a copy.

Anyway.

First things first: I am totally impressed with the male author's narration as a teenage girl. Hazel is fascinating because even though she is super smart and doesn't talk the way a teenager would, she is still totally just a teenager. She is biting, sarcastic, says "like" a lot, and thinks "UGGGGGGGG" when Mom makes her do something she doesn't want to. Augustus is the same way - wise beyond his years but still just a teenager who wants to play video games.

I didn't understand what Megan was saying before about the book ending in the middle of a sentence but now I totally get it - it would be like An Imperial Affliction. It would be maddening! I hope we get a satisfying conclusion.

Also, this book is hilarious and I love the flirting and the witty banter, but then it will suddenly turn on you and remind you that these kids do have cancer and that their lives are a huge struggle and that I will probably be bawling my eyes by the last page. Talk about an emotional roller coaster. I can't wait for the romance to hit (not just the "Romance" with a capital-R, as Hazel so wisely pointed out). They WILL hook up, right?

I agree with Megan. I would like to have all the chapters at one time. I got too excited and have already finished the book and was waiting for everyone to catch up so I could discuss it without spoiling anything.

I too agree with Megan and Dana. I am almost finished with the book so its hard to post comments about chapters 1-6 without accidentally posting something about a later chapter. I don't want to post spoilers! I don't know if we should have just one post for the entire book because people read at different paces so we don't want to post comments about the ending when someone is just starting the book. Maybe we can put up multiple boards at the same time. For example: "Chapters 1-6"; Chapters 6-12; Chapters 12-18; and finally Chapters 19-25 (which is the last chapter of the book). People can post comments on the correct board as they read the book. I don't know if this will generate enough conversation on each board but its an idea we can think about.

In the meantime, I am going to go back and read chapters 1-6 and take notes so I can post some meatier comments on this board. =) Will post my comments once I'm done re-reading the first 6 chapters.

Guys...all chapters are up now, they have been for a few days! Are you not seeing this? I literally already did exactly what Mary suggested above...

Bottom line: we don't want spoilers, but we don't want to forget our thoughts/comments for chapters as we read them, so I will section off the whole book but put up all chapters at once at the beginning of every month.

But let me know if that's not what you see on the main homepage. In the meantime, can we talk about the BOOK?! Hahaha.
