Part 3

Ok, now the book is getting ever so slightly more interesting, no?

First and foremost though, a complaint: Too many of the chapters are ending the same, more or less saying "but that was nothing compared to what happened next..." right? Did that annoy anyone else?

While I still think the book is just a little too slow, I am picking up some hidden agendas and some odd behaviors that even Charlotte doesn't recognize. The weirdest part for me was when she spoke of Mrs. Grant and Hannah standing with her after Mr. Hardie had been thrown overboard and feeling like they were all united and surging with some sort of power. But really....they were trying to push her overboard, right?! Someone else, give me your opinion on this!

Jhani I totally agree with you. Those bitches mrs grant and Hannah were trying to throw grace off. Also mrs grant really reminded me of the people who were running The Manachirian Candidate. "Squeeze a little harder on his neck Grace." Creepy.

I was really grossed out by the raw bird feast they described as well as how Hardies neck was like dead cold fish.

Excited to read part 4 and be done feeling claustrophobic while reading!

This book is just...leaving a lot to be desired. Not like I could write it any better, but I feel like there's all this potential with the subject matter and it's not living up to my expectations!
The scene in which Mr. Hardie gets thrown overboard was the best, and I assumed there would be more drama and wild behavior like this before.
Jhani, I totally agree about how the chapters ended. It's one thing if you're reading a suspenseful crime mystery and there's actually something to get excited about on the next page, but in this book, it was the same old thing!
I've got just a few more pages left so looking forward to seeing how it all ends.

Agree with all of the above - seems as though Hannah and Mrs. Grant had all this planned out from the beginning and have just been using Grace (not that I really mind her being used at this point, she bugs me). I recalled to previously in the book where Mrs. Grant (or was it Hannah) made some comment about how Grace would be useful to them. So I guess this was the moment that Charlotte Rogan was foreshadowing with that remark?

Anyone else feel bad for our old friend Hardie? He may have been the only character I liked.

Onward, if only to be done with this book. I think Zoe really captured my feelings best - lots of potential with the subject matter, but it still seems to be falling flat.
